A n h y d r o u s c h r o m i u m ( I I I ) c h l o r i d e r e a c t s w i t h p u r e c a r b o x y l i c a c i d s ( R C O O H w h e r e R = C H 3 , C 2 H 5 , n C 3 H 7 , C H 2 C I , C H C I 2 a n d C C 1 3 ) t o g i v e b a s i c t r i n u c l e a r c h r o m i u m ( I I I ) c a r b o x y l a t e s o f t h e g e n e r a l f o r m u l a [ C r 3 0 ( 0 0 C R ) 6 ] + C l ~ . T h e r e a c t i o n o f C r C l 3 w i t h a c e t i c a n h y d r i d e , h o w e v e r , g i v e s a p a r t i a l l y s u b s t i t u t e d p r o d u c t , C r C l ( O O C C H 3 ) 2 T h e f o r m a t i o n o f b a s i c c a r b o x y l a t e s h a s b e e n a t t r i b u t e d t o t h e s t r o n g a f f i n i t y o f C r 3 + i o n s f o r w a t e r t h a t t h e y c a n a b s t r a c t i t e v e n f r o m p u r e c a r b o x y l i c a c i d s . T h e i r a d d i t i o n c o m p o u n d s w i t h a m m o n i a h a v e a l s o b e e n p r e p a r e d .
